SALPOST awaits Government bail out
The Sierra Leone Postal Services Limited (SALPOST) is in the well of illusion with solutions difficult to come by.
Investigations carried out by this medium have revealed that the parastatal has gone financial bankrupt as a result of bad business and the influx of the Internet and courier companies.
It could be recalled that the postal service was operating on letter mail, express mail service, parcel post, document centre and post office boxes and rentals.
In 2013, the SALPOST saw the need to march up with the twenty first century technology by introducing new and upgraded products and services to march the times but became impossible as monies allocated for the said purpose was spent without any proper financial accountability. As a result, workers of SALPOST have gone without salaries for three good months.
A State House source has however intimated the Sierra Express Media that Government is considering giving SALPOST a bail-out of forty five billion Leones to put the postal service back on its footing.
What is however puzzling to many Sierra Leoneans is that in the midst of this dilemma the management of SALPOST bought a CCTV camera at the cost of ninety million Leones much against the advice of financial experts.
