Kono Paramount Chiefs to Account for Le 973m
Presenter of the popular and widely-listened good governance program, Monologue, has called on the residents of Kono District to ask their various Paramount Chiefs to account for the sum of 973 million Leones disbursed by government to the various chiefdoms in the district as mining area development grant between 2012 and 2014.
Dr. David Tam Baryoh made the call over the weekend while he was presenting the Monologue program.
Giving a breakdown of the grant as distributed to the various chiefdoms, Dr. Baryoh stated that:
- Sandor Chiefdom received 123 million Leones,
- Gbenseh Chiefdom, 96 million Leones,
- Nimikoro Chiefdom, 219 million Leones,
- Tankoro Le 76m,
- Nimiyama 176m Leones,
- Kamara Le 113m,
- Gorama Le 9,
- Gbaneh Le 8m,
- while the Kono District Council received 231 million Leones, and
- the Koidu New Sembehun Council 12 million Leones.
Dr. Baryoh noted that the Paramount Chiefs are obligated to explain to their people how they spent the said grants to develop their respective chiefdoms.
Over the years, the Government of Sierra Leone has been disbursing mining community development grants to all the mining chiefdoms in the country but the grants have not been reflecting on the development of the chiefdoms.
