Strasser ready for Sudan Afcon test
Sierra Leone and Livorno midfielder Rodney Strasser reckons he is in good sharp to represent Sierra Leone once again when the African Nations Cup race for Gabon 2017 kick off next month.
The 25-year-old defensive midfielder suffered a dislocated shoulder during an international assignment against Swaziland in Freetown May 2014.
Strasser was off the pitch after just 8 minutes of play after an awkward collision.
The Genoa midfielder who joined Italian Serie B side Livorno on loan in January for the rest of the season is also hoping he can help Livorno gain promotion.
“I’m fine now, he said. “I’m in good sharp and looking forward to our 2017 African Nations Cup qualifiers. Also meeting national team-mates is always a good atmosphere.”
“National assignment as always first on my agenda if am fully fit. I have a special desire to play regularly for Sierra Leone,” Strasser told Footballsierraleone.net
When asked about his present club Livorno, Strasser said, “We have two more games and we are on the run for a playoff place, am hopeful other results go our way.
“I can’t determine where I play next season, as at now am only focussing on doing my best with Livorno.”
They now have 58 points from 40 matches, eleven points behind league leaders Capri.
Their last two matches in the regular season are against playoff rivals Vicenza at home this Saturday and Pescara away next Friday 22nd.
However, Sierra Leoneans are lowering their expectations ahead of their opening Africa Cup of Nations match against Sudan in Khartoum due to the ongoing power struggle over the running of football in Sierra Leone.
Sierra Leone will kick start another attempt to return to the continental big stage taking on Sudan in their first qualification match before hosting Ivory Coast most likely in Freetown.
