Sierra Leone move Olympic tie to Cameroon

Sierra Leone U-23 team are to host their Olympic qualification tie against Cameroon in Yaoundé because of the ongoing CAF moratorium on football in Ebola-hit countries.

The first leg is scheduled for May 24 in their rival’s capital city and the second leg will be held on the weekend of May 29-31, 2015.

Cameroon positively welcomed the request of Sierra Leone to play their home tie of Caf U23 Championship in Yaoundé.

“We have agreed to play both games in Yaoundé and the team leaves for Yaoundé next week,” Sorie Ibrahim Sesay Sierra Leone Football Association head of competition told footballsierraleone.net.

The Caf U23 Championship finals will take place from 28 November – 12 December 2015 in Senegal after the withdrawal of DR Congo as host.

Under the supervision of head Coach John Keister and Abu Bakar Tostao Kamara, the squad will depart Freetown next week for Cameroon.

The winner between Sierra Leone and Cameroon will take on Algeria in the third round.

According to the CAF, all players participating in the preliminary and final tournament of U-23 African Championship should be born on or after 1 January 1993.

A total of eight teams will play in the final tournament, to be hosted by Senegal.

The top three teams of the U-23 will represent Africa in the Olympic Games in Rio 2016.
