President hails lands minister in Moyamba

President hails lands minister in Moyamba

President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma has hailed the Minister of Lands Country Planning and the Environment Musa Tarawally for his outstanding role in containing the Ebola virus within the Moyamba District.  Musa Tarawally walking with President Koroma

He made this statement during his address to Paramount Chiefs over the weekend in Moyamba.

President Koroma commend the district Ebola tax force committee, headed by Musa Tarawally, for their outstanding role in ensuring that they contained the virus and cut the spread of the disease in the district. He noted that Ebola battle had reached the second phase wherein government need to put all modalities in place to eradicate the virus from the country. He revealed that the British, Cubans, China, CDC, and host of other organizations from the international community had come into Sierra Leone to render their support in the fight against the virus. He calls on the paramount chiefs and all stakeholders to join the fight so as to cut the chain of transmission in the district. “we can only defeat Ebola if we cut the chain of transmission; avoid contacts, report all sick cases to the hospital, and stop touching dead bodies”, he said. Adding that the government is doing all it can to ensure that timely logistic are provided for health workers, contact tracers, burial teams and the youths who risk their lives to manned all the check points in the chiefdoms. He appeals to PC to take the lead in their various chiefdoms in fighting the Ebola virus. He implore the committee to continue it good work as “Ebola must go”.

WHO Coordinator Moyamba District Aminata Kobie revealed that they were working in partnership with the DHMT in combating the virus in the district. He calls on the president to help with more logistic for the health workers, “bad roads, timely release of funds and ambulance were our major challenge in our job”, she said. He commend the district tax force for its hard work in mobilizing the youth in manning check points day and night.

National Chairman Council of Paramount Chief, PC Charles Balaka Caulker, noted that they had committed themselves in ensuring that they tackle the virus in the district. He commends the president for his effort in mobilizing funds, equipments and the construction of a holding and treatment centre in the district.

He commends the effort of the Minister of Lands Musa Tarawally for mobilizing stakeholders and youth in organizing the district tax force committee which had been doing extremely well. He assures that they would not seat bye and wait for the government to provide funds for them, “we will do all we can as PC to ensure that we save our people from this virus, we will not wait for the government”, he said. Caulker however stated that they would be holding meeting with their section chiefs, Village head men, youth leaders and women groups to tax them with the responsibility to ensure that no sick person or corpses are kept in houses. “We now owned all the corpses in our chiefdoms, nobody is allowed to bury or handles corpses until we give instructions”, he said.
