Black out hits Kenema city!
The Headquarter of Eastern Province Kenema has been experiencing serious black outs for more than six months now according to Brima Konneh; Youth Empowerment Chairman at his Regional Office at Sombo Street in Kenema City who reliably told Sierra Express Media.
In an exclusive interview, he said due to the shortage of water and electricity the city has turned into ghost town, and it seems the Bo-Kenema power service (BKPS) is doing nothing toward the this disgusting state of affair of the citizens as they pay electricity bills; due and other taxes but getting absolutely nothing at all Konneh said.
Considering the present hardship and lack of amenities that is daily gripping the people of Kenema, it is clear indication that things are not going on well at all and we daily see a mass of disgruntled citizens taking the toll of the negligence of both the government and the local authorities another youth leader Mohamed Jabbie told this medium. Jabbie said this is in fact a gross embarrassment to both the government and the local council who don’t seem to even notice that plight of the people.
SEM spoke with the Bo-Kenema Power Service (BKPS) Supervisor Mohamed Sheriff who said the power cut is due to lack of water supply to the dam and that certain damage has occurred in the Department that could not be easily fixed making the situation very precarious. He noted that majority of the power BKPS supplies come from the hydro Electrical system but that with the dry season, the dam could supply electricity which he further noted has led to the many problems the Department is suffering.
Notwithstanding that, residents say BKPS collects light bills at the end of any month a situation they think is not fair to them at all.
