President Koroma commissions new health vehicles
President Ernest Bai Koroma (in photo) accompanied by Vice President Sam Sumana at State House commissioned 34 vehicles and 54 XL bikes as part of government’s drive for the realization of the April 27th 2009 free treatment for all Children under 5 years and their mothers, lactating mothers and pregnant mothers.
Speaking at the commissioning on the grounds of State House, President Koroma said the procurement of these vehicles together with UNFPA and the GLOBAL FUND will no doubt enhance the realization of the Free Health Service come April 27th 2010. Government he said is preparing to take care of cost for the children under five years, lactating mothers and pregnant mothers and noted that the health providers must be comfortable in rendering their services
According, to president Koroma it is important for tax payers to know that these are part of their tax paid. He warned that these vehicles must not be used for other purpose other than for their intended purposes and that doctors must not use the ambulances, nor should them be used for domestic purposes. He said priority must be given to people in the field and insist that the list of those that the vehicles and bikes will be given to be seen by him.
According, to Vice President Sam Sumana over seeing the Ministry of Health there is a total of 34 vehicles, 54 Honda XL bikes. He said of the 34 vehicles, 23 are purchased by government, 6 by the GLOBAL FUND and 5 from UNFPA for the Nigerian doctors.
