Domestic violence pervades Kenema
Reports reaching Sierra Express Media indicate that domestic violence is on an unprecedented increase in the Eastern Head Quarter City of Kenema with children and the women folk taking the unsavory toll; most cases resulting in physical injury and even death.
Speaking to police constable SLP 2319 Smith attached to the Family Support Unit (FSU) Kenema Police Station; he pointed out that domestic violence and related cases are the most frequent issues the police has to deal with in the district, more than hundred cases are reported every month; most of which according to findings by Sierra Express Media are yet to be processed by law.
According to the police constable, most of the cases are related to rape, unlawful canal knowledge committed by older men against under aged girls who now seem virtually vulnerable in not just the district but the whole of the country. It is always the men beating and wounding the women, he said.
This was confirmed by Madam Mamie Sannoh a complainant in a case of violence at the FSU in Kenema, Madam Sannoh revealed that her husband physically assaulted her after she questioned him about an affair he was having with another woman that had resulted in him abandoning her with her six children.
When I questioned him, the only thing he could do is beat me and my children up with sticks and stones and throwing us out of the house. The action of Madam Sannoh’s husband according to police reports has left her and three of the children in serious bodily wounds and pains and has made them homeless.
