Chief of Staff meets Health Minister and team
Freetown, Jul. 22, 014 (MOHS) – The newly appointed Chief of Staff, Mr. Saidu Conton-Sesay has made a familiarization visit to the Health and Sanitation Ministry to acquaint himself with key issues surrounding the Free Health Care, the Sierra Leone Health Insurance Scheme and the current Ebola outbreak in the country.
Speaking during the meeting in the Ministry’s conference hall at Youyi Building in Freetown, Mr. Conton-Sesay commended the Ministry for the tremendous efforts on the Ebola outbreak and looks forward to a fruitful partnership with the Ministry.
He expressed his desire to learn about the current status of the Free Health care, the Sierra Leone Health Insurance Project and the Ebola outbreak in the country.
The Chief of Staff reaffirmed his belief in team work, pointing out that working in isolation would not help in meeting the challenges ahead.
Welcoming the Chief of Staff, Health and Sanitation Minister, Miatta Kargbo briefed the Chief of Staff about the Ministry’s current strategic National Operational Response Plan, effective communication and coordination between the District Medical Officers and control level in addressing key issues of concern on the Ebola outbreak.
She said resources from government and partners have been transparent, and would be appropriately accounted for within the framework of transparency and accountability, and reiterated government’s commitment to sustain the Free Health Care in spite of the challenges face on the Ebola outbreak.
Dilating on the Health Insurance Scheme, the Director of Planning and Information, Mr. Abu Bakarr Kamara explained that the project would be piloted in the Bo and Koinadugu districts for a two year period.
He said both the Rwanda and Ghana Health Insurance Scheme have been tools for experience sharing with a view to exploring the good and bad approach towards the implementation.
