Over free medical for disabled DIF-SiL raises concern
The CEO and Founder, Disabled International Foundation Sierra Leone Madam Kadie Kamara (in photo), in an interview with this medium raised concern over the composition of the Disability Medical Board that will be set up by the Ministry of Health and Sanitations and the Disability Commission.
She said there are many portfolio disabled organizations that are bagging projects from local and international partners without any implementation adding that these organizations have over the years placed themselves in positions that have been earning them projects regardless of their illegality.
She is calling on the Disability Commission to go in search of such organizations before the commencement of the nationwide medical examination that will qualify persons with disability for free medical as provided in section 17 (1) of the Persons with Disability Act of 2011.
She is also calling on the Ministry, the Commission, and donor partners to join hands to ensure that the disabled in remote areas across the country be certified for the free medical facility and overseas operations when and as the need arises.
She said the composition of the board is important and that it should be devoid of politics and self interest in order to maintain its credibility.
She called on the Ministry, Disability Commission and donor partners to speed up the process as the disabled continue to die as a result of no medical attention.
