MRU commended for containing the Ebola virus
The deputy minister of Information and Communication Hon. Theo Nicol has disclosed in an exclusive interview that the heads of state and government of the Mano River Union met on the 4th May 2014 in Conakry Republic of Guinea to review and take decisions on the recommendations made by the Union ministerial council on the progress report of the secretariat and major projects and Initiatives ongoing in the sub region.
The minister added that the summits commended efforts made by each member states and particularly those of the republic of Guinea, to contain the spread of the Ebola virus and emphasized the need to pursue the medical surveillance of the border areas for the eradication of this plague in the sub-region. The summit noted with satisfaction the climate of peace and stability in the sub-region as well as the positive political development registered particularly in Guinea after the peaceful organization of legislative elections in September 2013.
Mr. Nicol noted that the summit was attended by Her Excellency Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, president of Liberia and current chairman of the union H.E Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma president of Sierra Leone. H.E. Prof. Alpha Conde president of Guinea, H.E. Charles Kofi Diby minister of state, minister of Foreign Affairs representing H.E. Dr. Alhassan Ouattara president of the Republic of Cote D’Ivory. They also expressed grave concern about the situation in the central African Republic and call on national leaders of Africa and International community to take urgent action towards restoring unity and preserving the integrity of the C.A.R.
