NATCOM Clarifies 2012 Audit Report
In a bid to enhance and promote Transparency and Accountability of the services of the National Telecommunication Communication Commission (NATCOM) to officials of the Public Account Committee in Sierra Leone, Commissioner Saidu Turay said in a most recent meeting held at the Parliamentary conference room, tower hill in Freetown, that NATCOM has sincerely operated in Sierra Leone since its inception as a Telecommunication Company and that all alleged malpractices levied against them is considered defamatory and false.
The meeting was warmly attended by all invited guest.
Commissioner Turay in his clarification statement told the Committee on Public Account Committee (PAC) that the 2012 Audit Service Report was constant in their Audit reporting and were very much cooperative in responding to the Audit Service work since the establishment of the commission in 2006.
He said that most of the issues raised by Audit Service committee were untrue and assures the Audit committee that NATCOM adheres to the Telecommunications Act of 2006, adding that certain allegations are bent on undermining the dignity of the commission and or the Audit service.
He expressed his commission’s thanks and appreciations to members of the Audit Committee in Sierra Leone for establishing a vital role that is contributing to good governance and democracy and addressing issues of significance in the country.
Commissioner Turay revealed that members of the National Telecommunication Company decided to act patriotic and called on the attention of the Audit Committee to come on board and help in the smooth and transparent service of the telecommunication company. Adding, their call on the Audit Committee proves the willingness to serve the people of this country in a transparent and accountable manner.
Director of Finance, National Telecommunication Company Mr. John Edison Tarawally also commended the Audit Committee for their dedicated services to the people of Sierra Leone and further assures them that members of NATCOM will remain cooperative in all forms with the government and people of Sierra Leone in the delivery of services through accountability and transparency.
Mr. Tarawally disclosed that his office submitted their financial statement of 2011 as assures that the 2013 his expected to be submitted shortly.
Hon. Eric Koedoyoma Komba of constituency 027 in Kono district also Deputy Chairman of the Audit committee commended NATCOM for their commitment in the past years and encourage them to maintain their sincere service to the people of Sierra Leone.
