‘President Koroma is a Democrat’ – Kemoh Sesay
The Minister of Political and Public Affairs, Alhaji Ibrahim Kemoh Sesay has over the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) ‘Frank Talk’ Program said that some people are misconstruing the public discourse on the rumor that President Ernest Bai Koroma plans to run for a third term.
He added that President Koroma is a true democrat who believes in the party structure and knows the procedure of choosing a flag bearer for the APC and that he would never be misled by rumors.
Alhaji Ibrahim Kemoh Sesay further stated that the country has not reached the stage of discussing a third term and that the President would not do anything without consultations with other stakeholders.
He continued that the former flag bearer of the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP), retired Brigadier Julius Maada Bio wrote in an open letter to the President that the ongoing third term debate or an extension of the Presidential term would undermine the peace and stability in the country.
The Minister also disclosed that during the recent distribution of hundreds of wheelchairs to persons with disability at the APC party headquarters, Old Railway Line, Brookfields in Freetown, President Ernest Bai Koroma stated that he has neither endorsed nor condemned the ‘After U Nar U’ campaigners underlining that since Sierra Leone is a democratic country, the people have the right to their opinions.
On the Constitutional Review Committee, Alhaji Ibrahim Kemoh Sesay articulated that the process is ongoing and that it is unfortunate for people to think of a third term reiterating, “the President belongs to a party that has structures.”
