Le40m UNAIDS livelihood project mismanaged… NETHIPS Executives Suspended
Three regional executive members of the Network of HIV Positives in Sierra Leone, NETHIPS-SL, South, have been suspended for misappropriating the sum of forty million Leones donated by UNAIDS as livelihood support to prepare People Living With HIV (PLHIVs) for self-reliance in the face of threatening donor fatigue.
The three suspended executives are: the Regional Coordinator, Musa Ansumana, his deputy, Lahai Ngebeh and the Regional Secretary, Susan Fengeh.
They were suspended after confessing that they misused the UNAIDS Livelihood Project Fund by using it to dish out loans to PLHIVs who never refunded the loans.
They made the confession during a recent meeting with the NETHIPS Executive Director, Idrissa Songo (in photo) and the National Coordinator, Baba Conteh at the NETHIPS Regional Office at 26 Margao Street in Bo.
Concerned PLHIVs have described the suspension as not commensurate to the gravity of the offence committed by the executive members.
The PLHIVs are demanding a dismissal of the suspended executive members and for fresh elections to be conducted to usher in a new executive in the shortest possible time, arguing that the suspended executives need no further investigation as they have admitted committing a grave crime against the network for which they deserve dismissal.
It could be recalled that few years back, some support group executives embezzled livelihood project fund and they were all dismissed.
Meanwhile, an interim regional executive has been set up with Ansumana Sandi as Acting Regional Coordinator, deputized by Isata John while Moses Kallon is the Acting Regional Secretary.
But the PLHIVs keep clamouring for fresh election as soon as possible.
