In Sierra Leone NASSIT boss outlines strategies
The Acting Director General of the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT), Joseph Sedu Mans Jr, has disclosed in an exclusive interview with Sierra Express Media on Thursday May 8th 2014 at his Walpole Street office that he is determined to give the Insurance Trust a new facelift.
“I am extremely happy over my appointment by the President as the new Acting Director General and will work hard not to disappoint the President.
According to him, he has been part of NASSIT since its formation,underlining that he knows the problems affecting the institution,
The dynamic Joseph Mans maintained that he took up office on April 17th this year and his priorities will be to address the issues of late payment to people who have died and are contributing to the Trust including the payment to retired Civil Servants and late Pension to pensioners especially the Late Processing of the files of beneficiaries of the scheme and the number of unfinished projects to ensure that they are completed and guaranteed.
Joseph S Mans further disclosed that the Bo and Makeni Plazas would soon became operational while the Bintumani and Kimbima hotels have been completed and are now fully operational.
According to the Acting Director General, the institution is responsible to collect the contributions of members of the scheme, manage it effectively and pay retirees promptly and called on all stakeholders to support the scheme for its success,
He informed that meetings have been held with Regional Managers to ensure that they implement the mandate of the institution, change their attitude and work in the best interest of the country.
Mr. Joseph S. Mans Jnr further stated that since 2011 regional meetings have not been held and promised that regular meetings would now be held and the public informed, adding that the biometric system has been set up in the institution to ensure staff punctuality and discipline.
He added that he would continue to support the Public Affairs Division to collaborate with the media on public relations issues on radio, television and newspapers to promote the good image of NASSIT to the public but noted that the institution is facing numerous challenges that he is determined to address.
He also articulated that public investment is very important to help the payment of the benefit of members of the scheme, adding that over the years, this has been lacking and observed that the institution has not fulfilled some of the mandate, especially the payment of workers’ contributions to the scheme by certain companies.
Concluding, Mr. Joseph S. Mans revealed that in 2012 he was one of the professional heads (Administration and Human Resources) that started NASSIT and that he is au fait with the institution.
