As the battle for land intensifies soldier threatens to beat police officers

Sources reaching this medium indicate that one Mr. Mohamed Mansaray aka Tuneh who lives at Upper Mayenkineh Road, Calaba Town, Freetown is said to have hired a set of soldiers from the Benguema Barracks including the leader of the mob, Captain Toppy Doe to use force against residents of the New Site Development Committee at Allen Town for a portion of land which has been put aside by the Government for the purpose of a Cemetery at Cola Tree.

Speaking to Mr. Momoh Bangura who happens to be the Youth Chairman of the said committee, he said after the misconduct of the soldiers against civilians, Captain Doe went further to complain the community at the Calaba Town Police Station that they community people attack them.

At this juncture he said one senior Police Officer Mr. Gbondo invited them to the said station where statements were obtained.

He further intimated that after taking statements, Officer Gbondo received a call from Captain Doe threatening him to charge the matter to court immediately or else he will engage hooligans to raid and beat officer Gbondo and his bosses in the station.

Officer Gbondo became furious and asked the Captain that he has no right to threaten him in the matter.

It could be recalled that the land in question was allocated to the community people by the former Minister of Lands Country Planning and the Environment, Hon. Bobson in 2006 under the Government of the late Ahmed Tejan Kabba and that if any set of people including the Kamara family and Mr. Mohamed Mansaray believes they are the rightful owners of the land let them confront the government as they relied on the document issued to them by the government.

‘”We don’t know anybody to be owner of this land except the government that allocated it to us,” he concluded.
