Stern Warning For Impostors Despite Africa’s Rush For AIPS Membership Cards

There has been a sharp increase in the demand for the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) membership cards by national sports writers associations in Africa, the AIPS Acting Secretary General Evelyn Watta has said.   (Photo: AIPS World President Gianni Marlo)

She made this statement during the Continental Sections/Commissions Meetings past Monday 28th April 2014 in a separate session of the continuing AIPS 77th Congress in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Watta named Algeria as the country with the highest demand for the 2014/15 membership cards, while Senegal she said, is considered to be among the fastest countries in demand.

Recent statistics showed an impressive increase in demand by Africa for over 200 membership cards.

The AIPS Acting Secretary General said that Asia was trailing behind with over 60 demands.

“However, the demand for membership cards has decreased in the United States of America and Europe,” Watta reported to the congress.

Meanwhile, the AIPS Africa President Mitchell Obi has warned that the AIPS membership cards should not be allowed to fall in the wrong hands.

He said only active sports journalists should be holders of the AIPS membership cards and in his words, ‘not impostors.’

Mitchell Obi sternly warned: “we will hold the local sports associations’ executives responsible if the AIPS Membership Cards fall in the wrong hands because, they are the people who recommend their members for the AIPS membership.”
