AIPS Absorbs Four New Nations
Four new countries were on Wednesday 30th April 2014 absorbed as affiliate members of the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) after delegates at the association’s 77th Congress in Baku, Azerbaijan unanimously approved their membership.
The countries are Fyrom, Lesotho, Malawi and Turkmenistan.
Meanwhile, Tunisia has rejoined the AIPS also as an affiliate member after withdrawing their participation mainly due to internal wrangling amongst members.
AIPS Acting Secretary General Evelyn Watta told the congress that members of Tunisia’s local sports association previously had some problems which led to the formation of two parallel sports bodies.
She said: “but the problem has now being solved after both factions agreed to form an interim body that would lead them to elections in not too distant future.”
All five countries were welcomed by the congress.
