Explaining the significance of the meeting, ACC’s District Coordinator, Sahr I. Suluku maintained that the Commission was in a sound position to interface with NASSIT to ensure that corruption is got rid of in all parts of the country. He stressed that public education serves to remind public officials in Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs) about the work of the Commission and their role in the fight against the cancer. The District Coordinator extensively dilated on the mandate, mission, vision and core values of the Commission.

Speaking on corrupt practices in MDAs as contained in the AC Act of 2008, Manager ACC Kono, Rev. Bob Tejan Kandeh highlighted misappropriation of public/donor funds, abuse of office/position, soliciting and accepting advantage, influencing a public officer and possession of unexplained wealth as rampant. He emphasized that the punishment for each of these crimes/offences is a fine of not less than thirty million Leones (Le 30,000,000) or a prison term not less than three years or both. He enforced that, ACC was leaving no stone unturned and that the work of the Commission was to instill transparency, integrity and accountability in public sector institutions, seriously minimizing on the incidences of corruption.

ACC’s Public Education Assistant Sahr Nabieu enlightened NASSIT officials on the evils of corruption, the benefits of a corrupt free nation, and protective measures for informers and whilst blowers. Sahr Nabieu threw light on the operational areas of the Commission and the three-track approach employed in the campaign.

Mr. Mohamed M. Kabba Head of Office-NASSIT Kono earlier in his remarks appreciated the ACC for taking the Commission to their door steps, as it was the responsibility of all Sierra Leoneans to make corruption a thing of the past. He emphasized that ACC and NASSIT are sister institutions as they were borne by Acts of Parliament in 2000 and 2002 respectively. Manager NASSIT Kono informed the Commission that the mining companies, Koidu New Sembehun City Council (KNSCC) and some Lebanese were not cooperating in the payment of the NASSIT dues for their workers.

He assured ACC of their fullest support in order that the two institutions achieve their daunting tasks.

Questions and answers formed the highpoint of the interaction.
