Corruption at EDSA ACC indicts 8 for chopping billions

The Anti-Corruption Commission has indicted and charged eight EDSA workers (Mohammed Sheku Turay, 1st accused and seven others) on multiple counts for allegedly misappropriating Le 6 Billion.

The matter came up last Friday 25th June, 2021 in the Anticorruption Division of the High Court of Sierra Leone but the Judge assigned to the matter, Justice Aiah Simeon Allieu J, of High Court No. 5, acceded to the prosecution’s request for an adjournment to 30th June, 2021 because of certain technicalities that were discussed in chambers between the prosecution and the Defense Counsel.

On that adjourned date of 30th June, the prosecution, led by C. T. Mantsebo, requested for yet another adjournment on technical grounds “to ensure the interest of justice is best served.” The various defense Counsel, who did not announce their representation raised no objection to the prosecution’s request and the Judge adjourned the matter to Thursday 8th July, 2021 for the accused persons to be formally arraigned in court and the prosecution to open its case.

All eight accused persons who were on ACC bail were present in court; they were identified by the Judge and admonished to be in court on the next adjourned date. The eight accused are: Mohamed Kheku Turay, Alimamy Sesay, Musa Lahai, Mary Bangura, Rugiatu Kaloko, Hawa Y. Kamara, Noah Wainebah, Abioseh Ola Barnes. Their ACC bail continues.
