Cola Tree Allen Town storms Guma building

Hundreds of residents including youths and old people calling themselves the New Site Development Committee (NSDC) of Cola Tree at Allen Town on Thursday 10th April, 2014 stormed the Guma Building  in protest with placards demanding for justice.

In an exclusive interview with some of the protesters, Mr. Alfred Sesay Assistant Secretary General of the said committee stated that they are demonstrating for the authorities concern to see to their plights as a group calling themselves the Kamara family wants to grab their houses.  A land that has many buildings like primary schools, Abigail the Butcher, Market Centres, Mosque, Church, Health Centre, Police Station, Fire Force station, and a Car Park with over 30 dwelling  houses among the hosts.

The Kamara family includes Pa Morlai, A.S Kamara, Ya Alimamy Kamara and Gbassay Sesay.

According to Mr. Sesay the land was allocated to them by the past Government of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) under the administration of the former Minster of Lands Country Planning and the environment, Dr. Bobson Sesay since 2006.

He outlined a lot of developmental projects to have taken place in the said community.

Mr. Sesay reiterated that they always pay yearly fees of one hundred and fifty thousand Leones (150, 000) each to the National Revenue Authority (NRA) and maintained that they have document to the effect.

“We are greatly surprised because the land in question is billed to us by Government of Sierra Leone through the Ministry of Lands, why did they not sue the Government in Court?” said Sesay. He queried and revealed that the Kamara family has taken legal action against them with no legal document in their possession “If they want to claim the land, let them take Government that allocated the land to us,” he said adding that they want the ruling government to intervention immediately to avert future conflict.

The Youth Chairman of the New Site Development committee Mr. Momoh Bangura, lamented that “Government is our witness to this matter and we demand the High Court of Sierra Leone to help us on this matter so that we can get a fair trail. He said they access the land through government gazette “We don’t know the Kamara family as government never told us about any Kamara family to be owners of this land,” Bangura concluded.
