The woman in Kumba Momoh!
The news came as little or no surprise to many. It was late Friday night when the release from the State House Office of the President was made public that Kumba Alice Momoh (in photo) is now the new Deputy Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China.
Believe it or not, Kumba’s appointment is a step in the right direction – in fact, it was long-overdue considering her contributions towards the party’s UK Branch and the Sierra Leonean community in the United Kingdom in general.
Forget about the negative rhetorics or the minor garbage you see on the internet from those disgruntled folks, think about her positive contribution as Chairlady of the All People’s Congress (APC) United Kingdom Branch.
I first met Kumba Momoh shortly after my appointment as Information Attaché at the Sierra Leone High Commission in the United Kingdom – and it was not long after I discovered the woman in her.
Kumba had been an exemplary leadership figure over the last five years as Chairlady of the branch, having dedicated her time, energy and resources towards the success of the party more especially the recent Presidential and General elections in Sierra Leone.
As a person, she had been a mother who had demonstrated high level of maturity, responsibility and care; not only within her party’s branch but also the Sierra Leonean community in the United Kingdom.
Kumba has great personality – very charismatic and down to earth – one who had demonstrated high level leadership tendencies.
It was these characteristics that saw her weathered the storm during the branch’s most turbulent period in the United Kingdom.
The former Chairlady may not be a perfect person, nor her leadership qualities neither everybody’s cup of tea as far as the membership of the party’s branch is concerned, but her days in the United Kingdom will be highly missed by both party members and a wider section of the Sierra Leonean community.
In the next couple of weeks, Kumba will assume duties as Deputy Ambassador to China – and to my colleagues in China, you are about to have in your midst a great personality – a true sister and mother in the person of Kumba Alice Momoh.
