Police may get double promotions
A very senior Police Officer has told this paper that a lot of Police Officers will receive promotions this month.
He also stated that there was the possibility that some of them may even be given double promotions because they have not been promoted for over 10 years in a row.
He however noted that those Police Officers who go to college without first notifying and getting approval from the Police High Command are in breach of Police rules and regulations.
“It is such Police Officers who normally go to Journalists to complain that they were not been promoted without stating that they are law breakers who must be punished,” he observed.
He further explained that giving promotions needs to be properly planned as they go with the provision of necessary logistics and the increment of salaries.
In a related development he stated that civilians do not properly understand how the Police is run that is why they always lambast the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Francis Alieu Munu, for any mistake that any Police Officer makes.
He explained that each Police Officer must be responsible for his action as they are trained to act within the parameters governing their operations.
He said that most of the erring Police Officers do not act under the orders of a Commander but take upon themselves to act out of their own free will.
“How then can you blame the Inspector General of Police for an action a Police Officer takes of his own volition?,” he queried.
He also explained that Police Officers even have the right not to obey unlawful orders from their Commanders.
He described Mr. Francis Alieu Munu as a professional Police Officer who has a distinguished track record.
He stated that since he became Inspector General of Police, Mr. Munu has brought in a lot of laudable innovations that have greatly raised the morale of Police Officers.
He stressed that the people of Sierra Leone should appreciate the great sacrifices that the Police are making to ensure that their lives and properties are secure instead of always blaming the entire Police Force for the action of an individual Police Officer.
