‘OGI will take Sierra Leone to another level,’ Madam Kadijatu Sesay

The Director of the Open Government Initiative (OGI), Madam Kadijatu Sesay has said that they are set to take Sierra Leone to another level.

Addressing a cross section of Paramount Chiefs in the country, civil society organizations, and the general public at the Fachima Hall in Makeni, Bombali District, over the weekend, she commended President Ernest Bai Koroma for giving her the mandate to bring the Government close to the people and the people close to the Government.

She pointed out their vision is to enhance the three arms of government and Local Councils through dialogue; strengthen democracy; promote accountability and transparency; and create an interface between the citizens and the state.

She explained that they are working with civil society to bring elected and appointed officials to account to the population for actions taken on their behalf in order to enable the government to feel the pulse of the people and better understand their needs and priorities.

She pointed out that they are charged to promote the principles of democracy and the rule of law through which the government and the people directly interface, thereby enhancing transparency and accountability in the process of governance.

In her contribution as the Chief solar Engineer, Madam Nancy Kanu of Kontha Line, in Koya commended the OGI Director and her team for considering them in what she referred to as an epic event.

The programme marked the official opening of a digital library at Number 2 Kay Street in Makeni which was launched by the Minister of Information and Communications, Alhaji Alpha Kanu, Special Adviser to President Koroma, Alhaji Ibrahim Ben Kargbo and other state officials.
