In Sierra Leone NSRPA train staff in RAIS

The Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection Authority under the Ministry of Energy have started a four days intensive training on Regulatory Authority Information Systems (RAIS) for its technical staff. The training which is part of the authorities’ capacity building program seeks to empower its staff in records management. The training which is organized by the authority is facilitated by the International Atomic energy agency (IAEA). Speaking on the purpose of the training the Chief Radiation Protection Officer and Executive secretary of the Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection Authority Mr. Josephus Kongo since that because the old RAIS crashed some time ago the authority was not able to secure another system as it is very expensive. He stated that he had to make a request to the IAEA  for another RAIS machine so that the authority would be able to put all radioactive source in the inventory, He implore the staff to take the training seriously for the growth of the authority. He expressed thanks and appreciation to the International Atomic Energy Agency for capacitating the Authority.

Expert on Regulatory Authority information System (RAIS) Mohamed Ali Awan from the Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority said that the IAEA seeks to promote the peaceful use of ionizing radiation. He noted that the aim of the RAIS is for the regulatory authority to have all the radioactive sources and generating devices under regulatory control. He revealed that the agency has worked considerably in developing RAIS 3.2 server and every regulatory authority will customize it for its own operations.
