China’s Vice President extols Sierra Leone as a good example of Post War Reconstruction
The Vice President of the People’s Republic of China, Li Yuanchao (in photo) has on Thursday, 27th June commended President Dr Ernest Bai Koroma for delivering a wonderful speech at the 2nd World Peace Forum jointly organized by Tsinghua University and the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs. He made this statement during a meeting and banquet held in Honor of Sierra Leone’s President at the Diaoyutai State Guest House in Beijing, China.
According to him, they were “all deeply impressed by your wonderful speech this morning and your speech includes words of wisdom about world peace, and we are also impressed by the picture of what your country has achieved over the years. We are really happy to see that, Mr. President, under your leadership you drew the implementation of the ‘Agenda for Transformation’ and ‘Agenda for Prosperity’; your country now enjoy economic growth, political stability and national unity, and your country can be held as a good example for post war reconstruction”, he said.
Vice President Li Yuanchao further noted that yesterday’s meeting with President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People where the two leaders reached an important agreement in furthering the friendship and cooperation between the two countries was very much successful. “I do believe that, Mr. President, your visit to China this time will take the friendship and cooperation between our two countries to a new level”, he said, adding that members of the Chinese government wholeheartedly welcome President Koroma and entourage to China.
In response, President Ernest Bai Koroma commended China for the significant role it was playing in providing leadership for the emerging states, saying “we believe that with engagements with China we will not only further the peace and stability of the world, but the long and excellent relationship that we have established will be further deepened.”
Both Vice President Li Yuanchao and President Koroma paid glowing tribute to the architects of over forty years of Sino-Sierra Leone relations, which includes Hon. S.A.J. Pratt, the maternal grandfather of Dr Sylvia Olayinka Blyden who is the Special Executive Assistant to President Koroma.
President Koroma was accompanied by Dr Samura Kamara, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Franklin Bai Kargbo, Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr Sam Sesay, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security, Alhaji Osman Boie Kamara, Minister of Trade and Industry, Alhaji Minkailu Mansaray, Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources, Momodu Maligie, Minister of Water Resources, Hon. Victor Bockarie Foh, Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, Brian Gilpin, Personal Assistant to President Dr Ernest Bai Koroma and Dr Sylvia Blyden, Special Executive Assistant.
