‘Manaise’ Village Mobs Works Minister
The Minister of Works and Infrastructure, Alimamy Petito Koroma on Thursday 6th June 2013 received a hero’s welcome from hundreds of All Peoples Congress (APC) supporters on arrival at Manaise Village, Sanada Magbolorthor Chiefdom, Port Loko District to attend the funeral of the mother of his friend.
The Minister arrived in the township unknown to his friend, Chernor Saidu Kamara, commonly known as C.S. Kamara, Principal of Schelenker Secondary School in Port Loko who exclaimed, “I told you about the death of my mother but I was not expecting you to attend the funeral due to the terrible state of the road.”
Hundreds of APC supporters did not know the Minister but when his named was announced, they quickly mobilized to have a glimpse of him and shake hands.
Amadu Sesay, APC Youth Leader revealed that this was the first time for a Government Minister to visit the village adding that they have heard about Mr. Alimamy Petito Koroma for his hard work and achievements in the country’s development, especially in the area of infrastructure.
Amadu Sesay further disclosed that it is only Ministers in the APC Government that visit the community citing the former APC Government that visited them despite the terrible state of the road network asserting that the visit is a demonstration of respect for the deceased as well interest for the community.
The Youth Leader further revealed that Sanda Magbolorthor has benefited immensely from the APC Government, especially construction of schools and acclaimed the Minister for efforts to transform the country, particularly in road construction/rehabilitation, one of the keys to development.
He further highlighted the Guinea-Freetown International Highway that is strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries as well as improving the socio-economic wellbeing of the people of the two countries.
Adama Kanu, APC Women’s Leader pointed out that the APC, which is development-oriented and a grassroots party with legacies, is their party and pledged that the people of Manaise Village would always vote for the APC because they believe in its ideology and commended the Minister for attending the funeral of the mother of his friend.
Responding, Mr. Alimamy Petito Koroma said although he came for the burial ceremony but issues affecting Sierra Leoneans would be addressed, asserted that the APC Government is recognized internationally for its democratic credentials and assured the people of Government’s determination to develop the country.
According to Alimamy Petito Koroma, Government has improved the country’s road network, especially the Guinea–Freetown International Highway, Kenema/Kailahun Road, Port Loko-Lungi Road, Masiaka-Bo Road while work has commenced on the Matotoka-Kono Road including construction of the road networks in all the District and Chiefdom headquarter towns in the country.
The Minister continued that Government does not politicize development projects asserting that the free healthcare scheme for pregnant and lactating mothers and under-five children is a success nationwide while installation of solar street lights is ongoing.
He advised APC supporters to be law-abiding, complement the development efforts of Government, admonished them to avoid petty politics as we are all the same people and promised the people of development.
Mr. Koroma also maintained that Government’s focus to promote human rights and the standard of living of Sierra Leoneans would not be derailed and concluded that Port Loko District would soon get a new international airport at Mammama as well as a new commercial city at Lungi
