London Mining upgrades its Marine Logistics
London Mining Company (LMC) on 25 May 2-13, took journalists on a conducted tour of the company’s marine and barging corridor off the Freetown Harbour.
Upgrading its marine logistics, London Mining brought in another floating crane to improve its ship-loading capacity. The Floating Crane Transhipper Unit (FCTU), ‘MV Miramar’, which arrived from India, floated off the Freetown Harbour on 25 May.
Head of Media Relations and Communications, Mr. Osman Lahai said that this new floating crane is an addition to the ‘Pride of Marampa’, the existing Floating Offshore Transhipment Platform. This means that the crane will augment London Mining barging fleet and increase the capacity to deliver the annual target of over 5 million metric tonnes of iron ore concentrate.
The company also has four marine barges and a new sea-river vessel that are used to load iron ore from the Thofeyim River Terminal in the Maforki Chiefdom, Port Loko District.
