560 Motor Drivers Charged to Court in Sierra Leone

The District Traffic Officer (DTO) of “D” Divisional Headquarters in Kissy, Inspector Victoria I. Sesay, has disclosed in an exclusive interview with Sierra Express Media that her division has so far charged 560 commercial motor drivers and bike riders ever since she took up office on January 8th this year.

“Every week, thirty-five cases are sent to court for offences ranging from overloading, bald tires, using unauthorized routes, driving without a driver’s licenses or driving  unregistered and uninsured vehicles or motor bikes,” said DTO Sesay.

She disclosed that every week fines accrued from offences ranged from Le10-11 million  which are paid into government coffers. “As a result, we are able to raise more than Le42 million per month,” she added.

She said she was pleased to raise over Le 168 million for the last four months for government which is an indication that her department was working to portray the good image of the police.

The soft spoken female police officer said she will not compromise traffic offences in her division and as a result she has now been dubbed ‘Iron Lady’ in the police force  by some drivers who are not happy with her.

‘Iron Lady’ however commended the following police personnel working under her division. They include Sergeant Cecilia Carew who is the Acting DTO of Shell police post, P.C. 5859 Kamara alias ‘Pastor’ who is also in-charge of Calaba Town Traffic Police Post, Sgt Barrie, Sgt Sesay, who is also in-charge of operation and P.C. Conteh, among others.

She maintained that the police personnel mentioned above are really working hard to help her to succeed as the new DTO.
