Cape Verde Foreign Minister to Visit Sierra Leone

The Ambassador of Cape Verde to Senegal H.E. Francisco Pereira da Veiga has during a courtesy call on his counterpart  the Sierra Leone Ambassador to Senegal H.E. Ambassador Khadijatu Bassir (in photo), informed of a proposed visit of his country’s Foreign Affairs Minister  Mr Jorge Borges  to Sierra Leone next April.

The visit he said is to further strengthen the already existing economic cooperation and bilateral ties between the two brotherly ECOWAS States.

Ambassador Francisco Pereira da Veiga further informed Ambassador Bassir of a planned visit of a three man Trade Delegation from Cape Verde to Freetown. “The Trade Delegation would like to collaborate with your government for the provision of solar energy, even with the private sector” he said. This he noted is an effort to stimulate trade relations between Sierra Leone and Cape Verde. He disclosed that the delegation would be interested in the production of renewable energy and steel.

“During their stay” he said “the delegation would like to hold meetings with the Hon Ministers of Works and that of Energy, the head of The National Power Authority Technical expert on renewable energy and the President of The Sierra Leone Chambers of Commerce”.

According to the Ambassador, Cape Verde is a very tiny country but has success stories, many of which one can learn from in the areas of Governance and the development of tourism as well as her hospitality industry, which he pointed out have to a large extent contributed among other economic indicators to have reached a middle level income country status.

Replying, Ambassador Bassir expressed delight in the proposed visit of the Foreign Minister and the Trade Delegation, which she noted the country needed at this time to upgrade her energy sector and increase trade between the two countries.

H.E. Ambassador Khadijatu Bassir promised to do all she can to make the visit of both the Foreign Minister and the Trade Delegation fruitful.

Also at the meeting were the Head of Chancery Sahr Johnny and the First Secretary Samuel Kaikai.
