USA Visa fraud lands conman in prison

Freetown, February 7 (SLENA): Mildas Din Gabisi of 28 Minah Drive, Juba, Freetown has been arraigned before Magistrate Komba Kamanda of Court No. 2 to answer to a three (3) count charge of conspiracy to defraud contrary to law and obtaining money by false pretence contrary to section 32(1) of the Larceny Act of 1916.

Particulars of the offence state that Mildas Din Gabisi on diverse dates between 1st December 2012 and 22nd January 2013 at No. 98 Regent Road, Freetown conspired together with other persons unknown to defraud one Rose Mary Sia Lebbie the sum of six thousand six hundred United States Dollars ($6,600) the equivalent of twenty-eight million seven hundred and ten thousand leones (Le28, 710, 000 m.)

He was also charged with the offence of obtaining money under false pretence, contrary to Section 32(1) of the Larceny Act 1916.

According to the court, on Thursday January 24, 2013, Mildas Din Gabisi while in Conakry obtained the sum of ($6,600) from Rose Mary Sia Lebbie on the pretext that he (Mildas) will enable Rose to acquire a United States of America traveling Visa to the USA.

In his defence, A.B.S Bangura Esquire pleaded with the court to discharge the matter or grant bail to the accused on the bases that matter was outside the jurisdiction of the court.

The state prosecutor, Sgt. 1933 Jah M. A. opposed to a bail arguing that the amount of money involved was huge.

In his ruling, Magistrate Komba Kamanda said no country has Jurisdiction over other and considering the nature of the offence and its prevalence, the accused person be reminded in custody.

The matter was adjourned to 8th February 2013.
