Project Coordinator briefs Teachers Cooperative Union

Bo, February 7 (SLENA): The National Project Coordinator, Canadian Credit Association (CCA), Juana Vandy Saa has held fruitful discussions with a cross section of members of the Bo District Teachers Cooperative Union at the Conference Hall of the Sierra Leone Teachers Union (SLTU) in Bo.

While explaining the purpose of the meeting, the coordinator, Mr. Saa said it was intended to do follow-up, encourage and educate members on the concept of cooperative unions. ‘But more equally to solicit your membership into the association,” he added.

He said CCA is committed to working with organized teachers cooperatives in the district as spelt out by laid down rules and regulations, adding that the criteria for CCA membership includes, among other things, a minimum of one hundred members per cooperative union and that founding members shall undergo what he referred to as a credit union membership educational programme.

Earlier, while welcoming the CCA Coordinator, the Chairman, Bo District Teachers Cooperative Union, Mr. Matthew Lona-James, principal of the Milton Comprehensive Secondary School in Bo recalled the formation of their union in 2011 with a membership He informed his audience that registration with CCA shall be effected after such a union had accumulated a minimum portfolio of ten million leones, noting that up to date the union has registered a total of one hundred active and non-active members across the district.

He assured the CCA coordinator of his union’s collaboration with the national credit association to ensure effective mobilization of teachers in the district.
