Hit and run driver kills woman
The practice of lawless and reckless driving in Lunsar Town in the Northern Region was recently displayed when an elderly woman, identified as Ya Marie Kamara, aged 75, was knocked down and killed by a driver who fled the scene immediately after the act.
Eyewitnesses saw a Nissan car with registration number AEB 604 moving at high speed at about ten o’clock in the morning, knock down Ya Marie Kamara along the Makeni highway and instantly sped away without halting.
The woman had come to visit her son who was a student at the St. John Vocational Institute in Lunsar and was on the verge of boarding a commercial bike to return home when she met her unfortunate demise. The late woman was residing at 37 Moore Street in Lunsar.
As soon as the accident occurred and the driver fled, commercial motor bike riders immediately gave chase and helped Traffic police apprehend the fleeing driver. He was later identified as Alpha Yayah Koroma.
In his statement to the police, Mr. Yayah Koroma stated that he was coming from Freetown and heading for Makeni, and that he was late and therefore trying to reach on time so that he will be able to return to Freetown.
The body was later conveyed to the Mabeseneh hospital, while the driver has been arrested and is in police custody.
