MACP for November 17th Polls

It has emerged that the nation will again enjoy sanity during the upcoming Multi-tier election through the invocation of the no-nonsense Military Aid to Civil Power (MACP) policy. This welcomed development is as a result of the capacity of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) to provide adequate security for the conduct of the November 17th elections.

Following requests by the SLP in accordance with appropriate authorities, RSLAF personnel will deploy to support the SLP through the provisions of the MACP policy. RSLAF will therefore provide institutional and logistical support to the SLP who is responsible for the maintenance of the rule of law and internal security.

The legal basis of MACP is enshrined in Section 165 of the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone and was first invoked in 2004 when the first joint SLP/RSLAF land border patrols were conducted. The MACP has on several occasions been invoked and implemented with success and has contributed to cementing the relationship between the two forces and has also ensured the maintenance of law and order at all times.
