Fellow countrymen and friends of our beloved country, as we say good bye to 2009 with great expectations for the future on this great occasion of our peace and achievement, we [UNPP] extend our appreciation to all our friends and well wishers who join us in offering thanks to God Almighty with hope, blessings and peace in the years ahead, and wish the APC administration a happy new year and acknowledge their good wishes for the future of our beloved country. We [UNPP] are particularly happy to address ourselves as Sierra Leoneans and wish every Sierra Leonean at home and abroad for a HAPPY NEW YEAR. Every Sierra Leonean is a potential leader and are charged with the responsibility to return home and replace those who have started the good work and as a result of whose efforts we are enjoying today-what men have done man can do better! We enter the future with confidence that we will build upon the work of those people who laboured to construct the foundations of our new nation and that peace and progress will prevail. We are expected to be able to contribute effectively to the solution of those problems that confronts us. We cannot do this alone and therefore respect the principal of peaceful and friendly co-operation amongst us as Sierra Leoneans especially in uniting the North East South West divide, and a greater degree of intercourse than hitherto for the establishment of deeper understanding and mutual trust among people.
Whilst we rejoice, let us remember the work of those Doctors, Nurses, Teachers and Administrators who sacrificed immensely to prepare us for a day like this. Let us remember also our illustrious sons and daughters by whose perseverance and devotions we have made such progress as to become an independent state taking its rightful place among the family of nations.
Let us finally in congratulating ourselves also congratulate our present government for their remarkable efforts and in doing so let us pay tribute to all Sierra Leoneans who have sacrificed their lives for peace.
