Following representation made to His Excellency the President concerning the prescribed fees, a meeting was convened at State House on Thursday 13th September, 2012 which was attended by representatives of Parliament, the Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC), the National Electoral Commission (NEC) and ten political parties – the APC, SLPP, CDP, NDA, PDP, PLP, PMDC, UDM, UNPP and RUFP to discuss the matter.
It was agreed at the meeting that since the new prescribed fees had already been passed into law, the compromise is to revert to the old fees that were paid for the 2007 elections, on the understanding that government will absorb the difference between the old and new fees for candidates representing political parties as a way of promoting democratic elections in Sierra Leone.
The fees will now be as follows:-
