NDA Spokesman Lambasts NEC
The National Democratic Alliance Party (NDA) official spokesman, Chernor Alpha Bah questioned the National Electoral Commission (NEC) over the One Thousand percentage increment (1,000%) in the nomination fees, as being exorbitant and unreasonable.
Mr. Bah made this statement on Monday August 13th during a declaration ceremony of the newest aspirant to join the race for the Presidential flag-bearer of the NDA Party at their office Headquarter 5 Duke Street, Freetown.
Addressing a battery of journalists, Mr. Bah questioned NEC’s decision as a recipe to steer political demonstration by political parties, he said the NEC’s Le100 million fee slammed on presidential aspirants, puts NEC in the position of a fundraising institution. He noted that parliament had approved government to subsidize the election with 50%, whilst donor partners provide the other half, and Bah said he does not understand where the NEC is coming from with these escalating figures.
Mr. Bah explained that this decision by the NEC, is an attempt to frustrate the average man from taking an active role in the decision making of the country’s political system, he went on that the All People’s Congress (APC) party may not be unconnected with this ploy, as it is their political propaganda and philosophy to muzzle out certain players.
Lending her voice to this clarion call, the newest aspirant vying for the NDA Presidential flag bearer, Rachel Baby Four Lagawo, said the NEC should reason over this decision and take into consideration the condition of the ordinary man. She noted further that her reason to vie for this contestable position is to bridge the ethnic and regional divided culture that has gripped the political landscape of this country.
