The Battle for Bo…Former VP Joe Demby Rebukes SLPP

Former Vice President in the Tejan Kabbah led government, Dr. Albert Joe Demby (in photo) is reported to have slammed a high profile delegation of the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) headed by running mate Dr. Kadi Sesay, over the choice of Harold Tucker for the mayoral symbol for the Bo City Council.  Dr. Demby is quoted to have criticized the choice of Tucker at the expense of the popular candidate Lawyer Aggrey Aruna stating that the latter commands the support of the grassroots.

The former Vice President further warned the SLPP stalwarts to be very careful in the award of symbols against the will of the people, which he considers to be a dangerous blunder.  He further warned them to take recourse in their decision and give the symbol to the deserving owner to avert controversy.

The delegation further made a fact finding visit to Dr. Yillah who is also a top brass of the party who similarly recounted the blunders made by the party in their choice in the award of the Bo symbol.  He went on to catalog a host of problems faced by the council.

Earlier on arrival, the fact finding delegation is reported to have met with stiff resistance from youths of New London in the entrance to the city, who were waving black banners and placards in protest of the District Chairman Kanja Sesay who is accused of manipulating the process of the award of symbols for selfish reasons.

It could be recalled that the popular aspirant Aggrey Aruna threatened to run as an independent candidate after he was denied the SLPP ticket and throngs of SLPP die-hards vowed to throw their weight on him.
