Airtel fights against cholera

Consistent with its corporate social responsibility, Airtel has made a donation of over Le 50 million worth of medication to the Ministry of Health and Sanitation as an emergency support to help reduce the cholera outbreak in the country.

Airtel’s Corporate Affairs Manager, June Rose Johnson, maintained that Airtel wants to help Sierra Leoneans prevent the cholera outbreak that has plagued the nation over the past weeks adding that the latest gesture is in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO).  June further disclosed that Airtel has also provided a free hotline service for the cholera outbreak with a short code 909 which can be easily accessible in the event an emergency cholera case. Ms. Johnson lastly revealed that Airtel top management cadre intends to be making personal donations in the fight against the epidemic.

Deputy Minister of Health and Sanitation Tamba Borbor Sawyerr revealed that the handing over of drugs for the cholera outbreak by Airtel is symbolic and that the communication outfit has demonstrated love and care for Sierra Leoneans. The Deputy Minister assured that cholera will be handled within weeks pointing that an emergency budget plan has already been set up for cholera and a bank account will be created so that any institution or person who wants to donate towards the abolishment of cholera may do so through the bank. The Deputy Minister therefore expressed the ministry’s gratitude to the Airtel family for what he referred to as a kind gesture.

Airtel’s IT Manager Serge Pennaneach disclosed that his company has donated drugs for the cholera outbreak to thirteen hospitals so far. He then handed over the donated drugs to the Deputy Minister.
