Ministers Face High Court Ban

The Land and Property Division of the High Court of Sierra Leone has issued a stiff ban on the Minister of Lands, Country Planning and the Environment, his Deputy and other top functionaries of the Ministry in respect of a private property belonging to Administrators and trusties of the estate of Dr. John Abayomi-Cole.

At the helm of a protracted legal brawl between the plaintiffs, George Agibade Johnson and Mrs. Joyce Dune Johnson and four defendants including the Minster of Lands, the Deputy Minister, the Permanent Secretary and the Director of Surveys and Lands respectively, presiding judge, Hon. Justice Mrs. J.A. Showers handed down a judgment in March of this year, restraining the defendants from entering into any deal or arrangement regarding the said portion of land situate, lying at off Smart Farm Road, George Brook in Freetown.

The declaration accords the plaintiffs entitlement to a perpetual injunction restraining the defendants from entering into the portion of land as delineated on survey plan L.S 2064/97 dated 5th February 1998 covering an area of 96.6189 acres.

Solicitors for the plaintiffs JB Jenkins-Johnston Esq. assured this press that information and further clarification on issues and transactions of the said portion of land must be channeled through his Ayotunde Chambers at 4 Percival Street, Freetown and further entreated the public not to be misled by any reference to the Daklallah case because they are separate and distinct from each other.
