Kenema police in readiness for upcoming elections

Local Unit Commander (LUC) of the Kenema Police Division, David Sahid Koroma assured the people of Kenema district of maximum security.  He says he will do everything possible by having sleepless nights in the maintenance of peace before, during, and after the 17th November general elections.  (Photo: LUC David Sahid Koroma in his office)

The LUC Kenema police division and personnel are ready to make the general election safe even though they do not have enough logistics.  He told the press that the unit will remain steadfast in carrying out the professional task of securing the lives and properties of the people of the country.  He stated he had encouraged the unit to dedicate itself to hard work, oneness of purpose, and above all to be prepared to police the November 17 elections without fear or favor for any party or political aspirant seeking office.

The LUC said he served as Commandant for the police training school in Freetown from 2005-2007, staff officer to the former British born Inspector General (IG) of police Keith Biddle, head of marine, Local Unit Commander Ross Road police division and Kamakuwei, where he demonstrated a high level of professionalism to match up with International acclaimed police standards.

David Sahid Koroma disclosed that the police depend largely on the civilian population in combating crime in the communities. He therefore called on the general public to divulge relevant information to the nearest police for immediate redress.

He commended the District Security Committee (DISEC), the Local Policing Partnership Board (LPPB) and the media for their continuous support in the maintenance of law and order in the district, and the country in general.

He further stated that his posting to Kenema division is apolitical and he calls on his personnel to remain apolitical and uphold the code of conduct of good policing standards for the betterment of the force and the country in particular.

The Kenema police division LUC further disclosed that there has been a massive reduction in the crime rate within the Kenema division as a result of the police conducting a robust night patrol and he called on the police to behave professionally in discharging their duties thereby maintaining the standard of the police force in Sierra Leone.

David Sahid Koroma pointed out that the bike riders and the Nassir Ahmadiyya Muslim Secondary school pupils saga was the first challenge he was faced with in the Kenema district, adding that the level of professionalism demonstrated by the police force during the fracas and the timely support of the media, the District Security Committee (DISEC) and the Local Policing Partnership Board helped in restoring calm within the Kenema division.

He disclosed that the fire force, chiefdom police, and prisons, will be complimenting the efforts of the Sierra Leone Police during the elections, whilst the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) will be on standby for any eventuality to evoke the Military to Civil Aid Power (MAC-P). He called on all to remain calm as there is no cause for concern.
