Over Corruption Charges… Mayor & Co escape prison sentences

The case between the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), the Freetown Municipality Father, Mayor Herbert George Williams and others Wednesday August 15TH reached its end as a final verdict was delivered in the Freetown High Court, presided by Ugandan Judge, Justice Katutsui.

Mayor Herbert including his Chief Administrator, Bowenson Frederick Phillip, and seven others were standing on the dock for a twenty five count charge of corruption related offences ranging from breaching procurement procedures, misappropriation of state funds, failure to pay tax payer money, failure to pay NASSIT contributions etc., which according to Justice Katutsui he found the principal accused Mayor Herbert George Williams guilty on two count charges, and the other five accused excluding businessman Mohamed Allie Shaaban, and Arthur Kwesi, guilty on one count charge.

The verdict was read after a thorough questioning and cross examination by both prosecution and defense led councils with the following sentences for the accused; Mayor Herbert George Williams on count Twenty Four (24) the court found the accused guilty with a fine of One Hundred and Twenty Million Leones (Le120M).  On count Twenty Five the court found the accused guilty with a fine of Fifty Million Leones (Le50M).

Chief Administrator Bowenson Frederick Phillip and Sylvester Momoh Kennehini, the court found the accused guilty on one count charge with a fine of One Hundred and Twenty Million Leones (Le120M).

Franklyn Garber and Aiah Brima, the court found the accused guilty on one count charge with a fine of Ten Million Leones respectively (Le10M).

Alimamy Turay, the court found the accused guilty on one count charge with a fine of Twenty Five Million Leones (Le25M), which must be paid in the period of one month or face custodian sentence.
