Parliament approves new defence staff, ten others
Freetown, July 24 (SLENA): Parliament has approved ten presidential nominees among them is the newly approved defence staff of the Sierra Leone Armed Forces, Brigadier General, Samuel Omar Williams and other nine nominees to serve various public institutions in the country. The other nine approved nominees include Frederick JM Kamara, Chairman, Disability Commission; Mrs. Rugiatu Kamara, member, National Tourist Board; Joseph Bangura, Local Government Service Commission; Rose Marie Cole, member National Tourist Board; Leonard Taylor representing the Sierra Leone Bar Association, Corporate Affairs Commission; George Massaquoi representing Southern Region National Youth Commission; Mr. Bryma Vaapen Senssee Kebbie, member Human Right Commission of Sierra Leone; Mr. Brima Abdulai Sheriff, member, Human Right Commission of Sierra Leone; Mrs. Daphne L.O. Olu Williams, member Human Right Commission of Sierra Leone.
Making his contribution on the approved nominees, Hon. Shaka Sama of the PMDC called on the new defence staff to look into the welfare of the military in the country and provide them with better logistics to man the territory of this country.
To the approved human right members, Hon. Sama urged them to be proactive in their duties in making sure that human rights are protected.
The minority leader of parliament, Hon Emmanuel Tommy expressed appreciation of the nominees and urged them to work in the interest of the country and forget about political party connection.
Hon. S.B.B. Dumbuya, majority Leader in parliament said all the approved nominees have the right qualifications for the positions but must act in accordance with the law to move forward the development of the country.
The Speaker of Parliament, Justice Abel strong, congratulated the approved nominees and wished them well while discharging their responsibility.
