Dr. John Sandy – Architect of hope Sierra Leone

One of such greats that have come from this small West African state is Dr. John Sandy. Dr. Sandy is one of the architects of the Sierra Leone Arc of Hope (SLAH), an organization that has plans to break through the tightrope of politics to challenge what has been seen as the Herculean task of bringing hope to a nation once seen as a failed state in the eyes of the world.
To some Sierra Leoneans who have had the opportunity of establishing a niche in the United States, they have no plans of either spending their human or material resources to help their mother land. The reason being that there is nothing they can do to change the status quo back home with the accompanying problems of an underdeveloped Third World economy, and the insecurity of a banana republic.
This has not been the case with charismatic individuals like Dr. Sandy, who notwithstanding the challenges of his job, has time for his people and for the great plans in ensuring that hope is returned to e people once seen as hopeless.
Drawing on the principle that where there is hope there is life, Dr. Sandy and other like minded right thinking citizens from Sierra Leone have decided to challenge the system to ensure that what can be achieved in the United States and other successful nations can well be a success story for Sierra Leone!
Like other people who came to the United States in the same manner like the father of President Obama, Dr. Sandy came to the United States in pursuit of knowledge, knowing that back home, one of the main challenges to the lack of development in his country is the lack of trained personnel to manage the affairs of the country.
Having lived in the United States and acquired the knowledge available, Dr. Sandy has now decided, together with other members of SLAH, to put the theory to practicality and this is how the organization kicked off, and since then there has never been a look backwards.
As Board Chairman of SLAH, Dr. Sandy draws from a commendable reservoir of experience both from Sierra Leone, and extensively in the United States where he is currently residing.
In the United States, Dr. Sandy has been working with the Pennsylvania Statewide Adoption and Permanency Network (SWAN), and Family Design Resources (FDR) in the United States of America as Southeast Regional Technical Assistant for 9 private and public agencies, including Delaware and Chester Counties.
Dr. Sandy holds a social work and real estate licenses in the State of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Sandy has also worked as Program Director, Foundations Behavioral Health, and was previously Executive Director for PSI Services II, Inc., a non-profit private foster care and adoption agency in the City of Philadelphia.
Dr. Sandy joined PSI in 1999 as Clinical Case Manager, and within one month was promoted to Team Coordinator. In 2001, he was promoted to Program Director, and later to Executive Director. Prior to PSI, John worked with the State of Maryland in Baltimore, Department of Social Services as Lead Social Worker. He also worked with a State Senator in Maryland, and received a Maryland Legislative Proclamation for “Outstanding Contribution as a student Intern”. John holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Maryland, College Park; a Master’s degree in Social Work from University of Maryland, Baltimore, and Doctorate of Education in Organizational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University, Miami Beach, Florida.
Before coming to the United States, Dr. Sandy had taught school at the Catholic Mission in Sierra Leone. He later took up an appointment with the Sierra Leone Airlines as Air Cargo Officer before proceeding to the United States in 1985Â in furtherance of his higher education.
Dr. Sandy is indeed a Sierra Leonean worth appreciating for his plans for his mother land.
