President Koroma sends condolences to Saudi King
Sierra Leone’s President has joined world leaders to extend heartfelt condolences on behalf of his government and people to the bereaved families of 25th November, 2009 tragic incident in the city of Jeddah through the King of Saudi Arabia. (Photo: King Abdallah and Prince Mohamed Nayef in Jeddah after the incident).
In his recent letter to the Custodian of the two Holy Mosques, King Abdallah Bin Abdul Aziz Al –Saud, His Excellency, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma wrote: “I have learnt with shock and dismay of the tragic flood incident that occurred in Jeddah resulting in the destruction of infrastructure and causing heavy loss of lives.”
On this sad occasion, the President’s letter continued: “I wish to extend my heartfelt condolences, on behalf the government and people of Sierra Leone to your Majesty, the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and through you, to the bereaved families for this tragic incident.”
It could be recalled that, the heavy down pour which caused the flooding reportedly killed over 100 people and Saudi media described it as “the worst incident in 27 years” and that “around 1,500 houses in the small district of Abruq Al-Raghamah were flooded, with families taking refuge in upper floors and on roofs and over 3,000 vehicles were displaced by flood waters.”
Meanwhile, in its news brief, Saudi’s State Television, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Channel 2 (KSA 2) last night thanked all world leaders, including Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma for sending condolence messages to the bereaved families of the incident.
