Training for Periphery Health Units staff in Makeni

Makeni, 18 June (SLENA): Twenty-two staff members of the Periphery Health Units (PHU) in the Sella Limba, Sanda Loko and Gbanti Kamaranka chiefdoms in the Bombali district have under gone a three-day training on Basic Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care at the Makeni Primary Health Care.

Explaining the objective of the training, the lead facilitator, Sister Sannoh from the District Health Management Team said that the training was geared towards improving the skills and knowledge of the PHU staff while saving lives before, during and after child birth.

She said since the PHU staff deal with cases related to both mothers and babies there is the need to expose them to basic skills in handling complicated cases such as resuscitation, pantograph, hemorrhage, ecclesia, etc when treating mothers and their babies.

The District Medical Officer, Mr. Yankuba M. Bah, congratulated the facilitators for their input and commended the trainees for their participation during the training. He however encouraged the trainees to be regularly practicing the knowledge they have acquired from the training.

“As health workers, we should always work hard to improve our skills,” he said.
