World Cup Qualifiers, Equatorial Guinea to Engage Leone Stars Today

Leone Stars will engage Equatorial Guinea National team today at Malabo in the ongoing Brazil World Cup 2014 qualifiers.

Leone Stars traveled on Wednesday June 6th 2012 with a full strength squad including AC Milan midfielder, Rodney Strasser who was absent in action against Cape Verde in Freetown because of a knee injury.

Leone stars won their first match 2-1 against Cape Verde in Freetown and today’s match against Equatorial Guinea is a crucial match which Leone Stars must win if they want to qualify for the Brazil 2014 World Cup.

Tunisia in Group B with Equatorial Guinea and Sierra Leone will visit Cape Verde in another ding dong duel.

Eighteen players traveled with the delegation including the starting Line-up against Cape Verde a week ago at the National Stadium. Leone stars currently lay second position behind Tunisia who are the group’s leader only by goals difference and both teams have 3points each.

Team captain, Ibrahim Obreh Kargbo told Sierra Express Media that the entire country should throw their weight behind the team in both Muslim and Christian prayers.

The acting F.A President, J.S. Keifala said Leone Stars are currently flying high in both CAF and FIFA rankings. According to him Leone Stars lays 10 position in Africa and 61 in the world ahead of Nigeria, South Africa, Morocco, Guinea and Angola. He appealed to all football stakeholders to put their differences behind them and come together as one football family for unity, process and development.
