“War Victims Fund has less than Le, 300M” – NaCSA’s Director of Repatriations says
Obi Buya Kamara, Director of Reparations in the office of National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA) has intimated to this medium that less than 300 Million Leone is currently within the coffers of the War Victims Funds.
He said donor and other pledges are not coming forth to comply with their commitments as promised. “The Government, Ministries, Departments, Agencies, Commercial houses and individuals are yet to honour their pledges made during the launching of the War Victims Funds in 2009”, he stated.
He lauded the effort of the trustees President Koroma appointed to manage the War Victim’s Funds as he said they are really proactive in meeting their follow-up task of reminding business houses, the Government, Departments, Agencies and individuals of their promises.
He pointed out that a total of 32,110 war victims from all categories were registered for the free Medical Healthcare, Education, Skills Training and Micro-financial grants, pension (cash grant) and community and symbolic reparations.
With all of these, he said the beneficiaries are still facing difficulty in accessing such finance to restore their lost dignities.
Obi Buya-Kamara said, since 2009 the first set of urgent interim reparation was carried out with each beneficiary earning the sum of Le,300,000 to a computing number of 13,102 adult victims which ran till July of last year, adding that the last set of 330 victims each received the sum of Le 300,000.
Obi Buya–Kamara calls on those who genuinely pledged into the War Victims Fund to honour their obligation as it will go a long way in ameliorating the plight of the war victims in the country.
