Consider Women Organization Sierra Leone (CWOSL) embarks on fundraising project
The Consider Women Organization Sierra Leone (CWOSL) is a women’s organization that is located in the Tonko Limba Chiefdom in Kambia District, northern Sierra Leone. It is an organization that is geared towards seeking the interest and welfare of women, in particular reference to girl-child education. This organization has gained prominence in dealing with women’s and girls affairs for the past two years. Since the organization’s aim is to promote the welfare needs of vulnerable females, it has its motto as “Helping One Another for a Better Nation.”
CWOSL has actively undertaken several activities in helping to improve the status of females in villages around Tonko Limba chiefdom, especially Kamasasa village. Women’s activities ranging from subsistence farming, girl-child education are just two of its numerous programmes. As the festive season is already here, the organization will be holding its first fundraising Agricultural Show at Kamasasa in the Tonko Limba chiefdom in Kambia district on the 23rd December, 2009.
The theme of this fundraising show is titled: ‘Promoting the Value of Women and Girl-child Education.’ In a frantic effort to meet some of the worrying needs of females, the organization has also thought wise to hold a raffle for participants in the Agricultural Show. Potential winners in this raffle draw would benefit from different school fees prizes ranging from 1-2 terms including a whole year school fees.
The organization is also serving as an advocacy group for disadvantaged females who are faced with the problem of forced marriage, sexual violence, rape, child labor, and child trafficking in Sierra Leone. Since the organization is a voluntary women’s movement with the inclusion of few men in helping to address the plight of women, the executive members have also seen it as warranting calling on government and other stakeholders to come to their rescue. “As putting premium on women’s issue, especially the girl-child is a milestone in achieving the president’s clarion call to attitudinal change”, said Junior, the organizing Secretary of the organization.
