Give the National Fire Force a boost
The National Fire Force Authority (NFF) is stranded of late with potential equipment. One fire engine, according to the head of fire fighting operations is in good working order in the Western Area.
Little or nothing is known about the provincial headquarter towns, but in a nod-shell we are equally saying that there is not enough fire fighting equipment in Sierra Leone.
The dry season is often marred with fire infernos. As the case may be, both natural and artificial factors responsible for such have never been put into check. Often fire incidences are referred to as mysterious. This has been a major setback in setting proper precedents on fire crimes. Some time ago they had a team that did spot-check on fire activities in the various homes. For example there are those homes in the city without kitchens and are using fire out sources, those kinds should be arrested. Fire accident can occur through leakages of abandoned fire sources.
They should also enforce precautions such as keeping fire equipment, be it matches, Bunsen burner etc., out of the reach of children – all of being preventive methods.
There has been an increase in incidences of fire breakouts in the capital Freetown of late whose situation the NFF could not help because of their lack of the appropriate equipment.
The government has had these pleas time and time again but are yet to move in that direction to salvage such needs. Fire fighting is a second key component in human security as it deals with the aspect of saving lives and properties.
We are equally saying that even if it costs the president a generous hand, he should spend to ameliorate the situation further and add a little responsibility in that sector. This is said because often as the case may be, purchasing of parastatal equipment should have to go through procurement stages and fire fighting is in a threatening position in the country.
A second suggestion goes to the trade and investment companies in the country, it is not a pinned load on them that everything is rested on their corporate social responsibilities but where the facility arises they should help by giving the cause a major boost.
